Number of apparent hyperbolic events in the CNEOS catalog as a function of the standard uncertainty σv on each of the ECEF components of the pre-impact speed vector when using a 3σ criterion to check if the confidence region on the Kresak’s diagram crosses the left of the parabolic limit (Fig. 10). The left panel plots the result of this analysis when varying the absolute value of σv from 0.1 to 10 km s−1, whereas in the right panel we varied its relative value with respect to each component from 1% to 50%. The IMC1 and IMC2 candidates (cyan) have been filtered out for σv = 6 km s−1, or a 17% relative uncertainty.
