Same as Fig. 1, but considering how the characteristic strain of the GWB varies by changing the parameters controlling the shape of the BH mass function (see labels). Higher cut-off masses (M0), shallower power law (α < 1), and a shallower exponential cutoff (β < 1) produce a more prominent GWB, which is also characterised by a larger variance.
