Properties of the cluster mergers realized and identified in the TNG-Cluster suite. We plot the distribution of the main cluster mass (top), and the main cluster mass vs. the subcluster mass (bottom). We include all merging galaxy clusters identified in the 50 snapshots at z ≤ 1. The M500c mass of the cluster is measured at the moment of the cluster collision. The mass of the merging companion, Msub, denotes its peak mass prior to the effects of stripping inside the main cluster potential (Sect. 2.2). Thanks to the large sample and broad mass coverage, TNG-Cluster presents simulation counterparts to well-known cluster mergers, such as Abell 3376, Coma, and the Bullet Cluster.
