Most massive cluster merger in the TNG-Cluster simulation at z = 0 (log M200c = 15.4). From top to bottom, each panel displays the projection of dark matter column density ([106.5, 109.5] M⊙ kpc−2), gas column density ([105.5, 108.5] M⊙ kpc−2), stellar column density ([104.5, 107.5] M⊙ kpc−2), density-weighted temperature ([106.5, 108.5] K), mass-weighted magnetic field strength ([10−3, 10] μG), dissipated energy ([1037, 1042] erg s−1 kpc−2), and the dissipated energy-weighted Mach number ([2, 50]). The map size is 32 Mpc × 6 Mpc, the considered depth is 20 Mpc, and the colormaps of the images are log-scaled. This figure demonstrates that TNG-Cluster can realize an extremely massive cluster merger and its 4 Mpc-size merger shocks while simultaneously modeling and resolving its environment in great detail.
