Ray of light crossing the atmosphere of WASP-121b. The color map indicates the local temperature, ranging from around 400 K (in blue) to 3300 K (in red). The inflation of the day side is directly due to the increase in the scale height (due to the hydrostatic equilibrium). This simulation includes a super-rotating equatorial jet (visible in gray).
