Change in position of exoplanet candidates (orange crosses) relative to the star µ2 Sco between two measurement epochs. A co-moving source should be close to the origin (labelled ‘2018’). A background source with zero proper motion will move according to the dashed curve (a reflection of the host star’s parallax and proper motion) ending in the black star labelled ‘2021’. The motion of µ2 Sco b is distinct from the cloud of background stars in the field that are (through this plot) deemed not to be exoplanets. This figure has been adapted from Squicciarini et al. (2022).
