Schematic view of the KH-unstable zones in a VSI-unstable axisymmetric disk. Gas rotates in the meridional plane inside of approximately constant-jz zones in the sense of rotation favored by the baroclinic torque, producing high-shear regions that become KH-unstable. The transfer of kinetic energy to KH eddies acts as an effective friction between the vertical flows and contributes to the saturation of the VSI.

Current usage metrics show cumulative count of Article Views (full-text article views including HTML views, PDF and ePub downloads, according to the available data) and Abstracts Views on Vision4Press platform.

Data correspond to usage on the plateform after 2015. The current usage metrics is available 48-96 hours after online publication and is updated daily on week days.
