Black hole accretion rate density (BHAD) for various XLF models and growth simulations. XLF models from Vito et al. (2014), Ueda et al. (2014), Miyaji et al. (2015) and Georgakakis et al. (2015) are extrapolated beyond z = 5 (pale continuation of the red BHAD curves), and the prediction from Buchner et al. (2015) is given over the full z = 4 − 7 range. We include observational results from Vito et al. (2018) from the Chandra Deep Fields. The measurement derived from the high-redshift quasar detections in eFEDS is shown as a yellow square. Our result is consistent with theoretical predictions restricted to the highest halo (and black hole) masses (Volonteri et al. 2016; Ni et al. 2022). For comparison, a scaled version of the star formation rate density from Bouwens et al. (2015) is shown as beige-shaded and dashed area.
