Fraction of transmitted light as a function of the grating size of a spectrograph with an effective focal length of 1500 mm, calculated using the method from Sect. 2.2.1 for the double-microlens design, with a pitch of 325 µm at a wavelength of 630 nm for N ≈ 18. The center of the plateau, marked by the horizontal and vertical red lines, corresponds to the grating for which the entire central maximum of the diffraction dominated pupil, containing 82% of the input light, is reflected. The vertical blue line marks the size of the scaled and reimaged telescope pupil.
