Construction of the stable temperature profile in the convective adjustment scheme. An initially unstable region of the air column spreading from layer l₁ to layer l₂ is extended both downwards and upwards until the temperature profile is stable. At every step, the mass-averaged potential temperature of the region is adjusted to include the contribution of the current unstable layer.
