Flow chart summarising the three conditions required to produce the distinct and distance-correlated isotopic compositions of the Earth, Mars, and Vesta. The most important condition is the heterogeneous distribution of isotopes along a gradient in the inner Solar System. If this condition is not fulfilled, then the planetary bodies will have the same isotopic composition regardless of whether there was mixing in the disc or whether the feeding zones are distinct.
