Grey-scale view of the full field imaged by ASKAP at 887 MHz. The restoring beam is 13.2″ × 10.4″, p.a. 85.4°. The noise level ranges between 30 and 50 μJy beam−1 across the field. The radio galaxy PKS 1333–33 is clearly visible in the bottom–left part of the field. The black contours show the number density of the galaxies at the redshift of the Shapley Supercluster. The contours correspond to 5, 10, 20, 40, 80, 160 gal Mpc−2 (Haines et al. 2018). The region under study in this paper, going from A3562 to the central part of A3558 (east to west) is highlighted in the red rectangle. The green and purple circles show the GMRT pointings of the observations 22_039 and 30_024 respectively, and the full area covered by the primary beam.
