Formation of the strongest C I lines in the visible from the multiplet 270; λλ 9 061, 9 062, 9 078, 9 089, 9 095, 9 112 Å. The level 2s² 2p3s is strongly populated by the UV resonance transition, which al- lows the absorption lines to the level 2s²2p3p. However, the upper level from this transition is also populated from the level 2s² 2p3d pumped by UV radiation. This overpopulation of 2s²2p3p creates the emission wings of these strongest lines.
