Sloan g (upper panel) and r band (lower panel) images of the NGC 1042 region taken with the LBT. The images have been rebinned to a pixel size of 4.5″ (i.e. 20 × 20 the original pixel scale) to facilitate the observation of the low surface brightness features. The pink arrow on the upper panel points to the extended emission of NGC 1042 to the east region. The pink arrows on the bottom panel indicate the location of stream and shell structures of NGC 1052. Towards the edges of these images the number of exposures drop significantly (see Fig. 1) and the depth and quality decreases.
