Normalized photometric redshifts distribution, for galaxies with 0 < z_phot < 1 and within ∼100 (top) and ∼300 (bottom) projected kpc from J1430 (blue histogram), for a z  ∼  0.54 X-ray selected group (Vajgel et al. 2014, XBS41; orange dotted histogram), and for 50 random galaxies in the Boötes field with 0.629 < z_phot < 0.631 (grey dashed line with 68% spread). The distributions are drawn 5000 times each, taking into account the uncertainties over each photometric redshift as explained in the text. While the peak around the redshift of the GRG is less significant than the group at slightly lower redshift, the distributions of the 50 random positions demonstrate that J1430 does not reside in an underdense environment – and, instead, its environment may in fact be slightly overdense.
