Fig. 3

Dielectric functions at T = 273.1 K evaluated at imaginary frequencies for different materials: fully occupied (Ng = 8) CO2 gas hydrate (black dash-dot-dot line), empty (Ng = 0) CO2 gas hydrate structure (solid black line), ice-cold water (Fiedler et al. 2020) (solid light blue line), and ice (Elbaum & Schick 1991) (blue dash-dot line). Here Ng is the number (between 0 and 8) of gas molecules per 46 water molecules in the gas hydrate structures. The static values ε(0) are 91.5 for ice (Elbaum & Schick 1991), 87.8 in the model for water (Fiedler et al. 2020), 16.6 for the empty CO2 structure (Ng = 0), and 25.4 for the fully occupied CO2 structure (Ng = 8). For comparison, we also show the older dielectric function for ice-cold water (Elbaum & Schick 1991) (light blue dash line).
