Binding energy of the envelope of a star with an initial mass of 30 M as a function of the radius at RLOF. Solid lines indicate the results from our αCE = 1 grid with three different mass ratios q = 0.17, 0.29, and 0.45. Dotted lines show the binding energy at a given radius deduced from a single star model, including the results obtained with the fit of Xu & Li (2010), the fit of Claeys et al. (2014), and assuming the bottom of the envelope to be at X = 0.1, X = 0.3, or to correspond to the bottom of the convective envelope. Symbols indicate whether the binary undergoes RLOF before or after core helium depletion.
