Synthetic polarization map of B335 at a wavelength of 214 μm derived under the assumption of self-scattering. Total intensity is shown (re-emission and scattered light) with overlaid polarization vectors in red. Polarization due to self-scattering causes a centrosymmetric polarization pattern for our model. The resulting degrees of polarization for our self-scattering model are very low (see reference vector in the upper right corner of the polarization map). The isocontour lines mark 20, 40, 60, and 80% of the maximum intensity. The image has been convolved with a Gaussian profile with the SOFIA/HAWC+ band E FWHM of 18.2″.
