Spatial distribution of the RPM sample in heliocentric Cartesian coordinates. The sample is distributed uniformly, and the density of sources decreases with heliocentric distance, as is expected for a magnitude-limited sample. A combined effect of dust extinction and the scanning pattern of Gaia creates stripes. Sources with |b| < 20° have been removed (i.e., highly reddened stars located close to the disc).
