XLAE vs. M1500 for EW(Lyα) ≥ 50 Å at z ≈ 3-4. Our XLAE at z ≈ 3.3 (≈2.9–3.7) and z ≈ 4.1 (≈3.7–4.4), are indicated by filled and open magenta stars, respectively. Stark et al. (2010)’s XLAE at z ≈ 3.5–4.5 is shown by filled grey squares. The open grey square indicates the corrected XLAE value of Stark et al. (2010) at M1500 = −19 mag (see Sect. 4.1.1). For visualization purposes, we slightly shift the magenta open stars and the grey open square along the abscissa and show the width of M1500 only for the red filled stars.
