Simulation of RV maps corresponding to a model of solid-body rotation, i.e., V = Vequator cos(λ) (top), and a meridional circulation, i.e., (bottom), where λ stands for the latitude. For the zonal wind Vequator = 100 m s−1, for the meridional wind m s−1. The Doppler shift assumes the use of reflected solar lines and a phase angle of 43°. The black boxes indicate the orientation of the entrance slit of the spectrometer and the arrows show the scanning direction. The slit width corresponds with the exact width (0.75 arcsec) relative to Venus, but the length was reduced from 100 to 18 arcsec for illustration purposes.
