Table 2

P-values for the estimated coefficients from the model in Eq. (5) for correcting stellar activity induced by an equatorial 3% facula on the simulated Sun.

Parameter N mean RV SN mean RV SN median RV
β0 0.3e − 4 0.081 0.34e − 3
β1 2.01e − 8 5.11e − 5 4.74e − 5
β2 2.22e − 16 1.66e − 5 2.22e − 16
β3 0.48 0.013 0.012
β4 0.28 0.31e − 3 0.22e − 3
R2 0.9839 0.9801 0.9844

Notes. All the parameters corresponding to the SN variables are statistically significant. When using the Normal variables, the parameters β3 and β4 are not statistically helpful for the correction. The estimated R2 show that the proposed correction for stellar activity explains the vast majority of the spurious variability present in the different RV estimates.
