Number density profiles for the M 87 halo PNs (red triangles) and revised ICPNs (blue triangles). The ICPN profile is described by a power-law profile I_ICL ∝ R^−α with α_ICL = 0.79 ± 0.15 (blue dash-dotted line). As in Longobardi et al. (2015a) it is shallower than the halo PN profile, which closely follows the surface brightness profile of M 87 (black crosses and continuous black line from Kormendy et al. (2009) except in the very outer regions.
