Simulated CORE observations at 1.3 mm wavelength using original data obtained for Orion-KL by Lane et al. (2016). For details of the simulations see Appendix B. The beam for the left panel (Orion shifted to 3 kpc) is 2.19″, whereas the synthesized beam of the simulated image in the right panel is 0.44″ × 0.34″ (PA 44 deg). The contours in the left panel begin at 10 mJy beam−1 and continuein 30 mJy beam−1 steps. The contours in the right image start at 3σ and continuein 6σ steps (1σ ~ 0.3 mJy beam−1). The large circles are of 22″ diameter marking the FWHM of the primary beam.
