Centre of the the h and k Mg ii lines in the HST/STIS UV spectra of HD 84937 and HD 140283. The profiles of the h and k lines have been overplotted to show the emission at the centre of both lines indicating the existence of a chromosphere. In HD 84937 an interstellar line, with a radial velocity close to the radial velocity of the star, perturbs the profile on the red side of the core.
