VUDS-DR1 coverage of the CANDELS H-band F160W area in the ECDFS field. The CANDELS area is indicated by the red polygon, and the four-quadrant footprint of the two overlapping VIMOS pointings is overlaid as the green rectangles with the pointing number identified. Because of the geometry of the VUDS footprint on the sky, regions corresponding to the ~2 arcmin gap between VIMOS channels did not receive spectroscopic observations as is apparent in the lower and upper parts of the CANDELS area. The 314 galaxies with VUDS redshifts falling in the area in common between CANDELS and VUDS and part of the VUDS-DR1 are plotted as blue squares.
