Positions of protostars (Furlan et al. 2016) compared to gas density as traced by dust emission (Stutz & Kainulainen 2015). Protostars lie almost exclusively on the ridges of columns. In the north, they are confined to the integral-shaped filament (ISF), which is the dominant structure. In the south, the filamentary structure is more complex. Ordinate is δ [deg]. Protostars with (without) radial velocity measurements are shown in cyan (blue). The approximate region used to calculate the potential is indicated with a black box of size ~19 × 7.3 pc2.
