HRD of NGC 6397 with luminosities plotted as a function of effective temperatures, colour coded by metallicity. The assumed reddening is E(B − V) = 0.18 with a distance modulus of 12.13 mag. The area on the giant branch indicated with a red rectangle is discussed in Sect. 5.4.
