Upper panel: detailed zoomed in region with minor atmospheric absorption. Due to variations caused by the spline fit and noise in the TSS spectrum, the classical method introduces continuum variations and noise to the corrected spectrum. All spectral features in the theoretical transmission arise from molecular absorption. Since it is free from random variations, the noise in the corrected spectrum is not increased (colour coding as in Fig. 17).
