Color maps of the velocity integrated intensity (in the range 0–40 km s-1) of the J = 1 → 0 and J = 2 → 1 transitions of 12CO (top panels) and 13CO (bottom panels) in M17 SW. The contour levels are 25%, 50% (thick contour), 75%, and 90% of the peak emission. All maps have been convolved to the larger beam (24′′) of the CO J = 1 → 0 line. The reference position (Δα = 0, Δδ = 0), marked with a cross, corresponds to the SAO star 161357 at RA(J2000) = 18:20:27.65 and Dec(J2000) = –16:12:00.91. The ultracompact H II region M17-UC1 and four H2O masers (Johnson et al. 1998) are marked by the black circle and plus symbols, respectively.
