Notes. The stellar mass density (SMD) log (ρM) is derived from the best fit of the GSMF, integrating it from M = 108 M⊙ to M = 1013 M⊙ and assuming a Salpeter IMF. The best fit of the GSMF takes into account the Eddington bias, as discussed in the text and in Appendix B. The SMD ρM is in units of M⊙ Mpc-3. The minimum and maximum SMDs indicate the 1σ range (i.e. 68% confidence interval).
