Herschel column density maps (in [cm-2], all starting at zero) of Auriga, Maddalena, NGC 3603, and Carina after correcting for line-of-sight contamination and removing noisy edges and areas where there was no overlap between PACS and SPIRE. The contour levels are 3, 6, 10, and 50 × 1021 cm-2 for NGC 3606 and 5, 10, and 20 × 1021 cm-2 for Carina.
