Line detection in an X-shooter sky spectrum. While the upper panel shows a wide wavelength range, the middle panel focuses on a narrow range containing a prominent single emission line. In the lower panel, the first derivative of this line is given. Such patterns are used to identify emission lines. The resulting detections are marked by light blue vertical lines in the panels.
