Overview of merger timescales: first passage time (tFP) when a companion or satellite galaxy first passes the closest distance, maximum separation time (tMS) after the first passage, final coalescence time (tFC) when two galaxies finally merge, and merger-feature time (tMF) when post-merger features disappear given a surface brightness limit.
