This sequence of shots is associated to the sequence of points in Fig. 7 represented as squares. We plot e vs. ω of the particle also as squares. At each point, the amplitude and libration center of the resonant angle enable us to plot the energy level curves associated with each square, so the squares follow equipotential curves in time-varying energy level diagrams. The main point is to show the random character of the entrance into the hibernating mode. Panels c) and g) are very similar and correspond to peaks in libration amplitude as shown in Fig. 7. The transition to panels d) and h) shows the subtle difference between entering and not entering the hibernating mode.
