Perihelion versus inclination of comets from the JPL Small-Body Search Engine. Top panel (plots only comets with q < 5 AU, 92% of all JPL LPCs) is the plot of LPCs, and the bottom panel (plots only comets with q < 5 AU, 100% of all JPL HTCs) is for HTCs. Red circles are comets discovered after 1950 and blue circles are comets discovered before 1950. As can be seen, comets discovered before 1950 were all concentrated at low perihelion distances.
