DSS image of a 30    ×    30 arcmin2 region showing the positions of HD 47887 and HD 47777 in the sky. The “elephant trunk” visible at the bottom of the image is probably caused by the intense radiation of the massive cluster-stars falling onto a dense region of the interstellar medium. The geometry of the elephant trunk suggests that HD 47887 plays an important role in its formation.
