The longitudinal component v∥ over time. We find that the ponderomotive force of the propagating Alfvén wave (position marked by green lines) sustains a cospatial disturbance in velocity along the background magnetic field. This longitudinal daughter disturbance is a ponderomotive effect which in this case does not facilitate any conversion to the slow mode.
