Principle of PRIMA astrometry: reference and target star are observed simultaneously with two telescopes (left). Light of both stars is made to interfere and the location of the two interference fringe patterns is measured in delay space (right). The fringe separation ΔOPD is proportional to the projected separation of the stars.
