Background subtracted surface density of point sources per square arcsecond within 800″ of NGC 3585 (top) and NGC 5812 (bottom). The density falls to the background level at R ~ 400″ for NGC 3585 and R ~ 200″ for NGC 5812. The black, green and red curves are the best fit exponential, Sérsic and power law functions, respectively. In both cases the Sérsic drop offs describe the density profiles much more closely than either a power law or an exponential.
