R images of NGC 3585 The upper panel shows the original image while the lower panel shows the image after the galaxy light is removed with ellipse. The images are  ~15′ × 15′. North is up and east is to the left. In the upper panel, the approximate size of the WFPC2 footprint (white polygon), and the approximate radius beyond which our point source counts drop to the background level (blue circle), are included for comparison (see Sect. 6).
