Composite spectra of 6459 quasars observed both by SDSS-DR7 and BOSS for (i) SDSS-DR7 spectra (red) and; (ii) SDSS-DR9 spectra (black). The slope of the two composite spectra should be similar (as any variability should be averaged out). This is not the case because of the difference in focus of the BOSS quasars and standard stars. Note that this flux mis-calibration is different from object to object.
