The positions of X-ray SNRs and candidates detected with XMM-Newton are shown on a Digitised Sky Survey 2 (blue) image. The sources are marked with new classifications of this work (see Sect. 4). In addition, the position of the dwarf elliptical M 32, which is a satellite galaxy of M 31, is indicated by a yellow cross.
