Stacked images (5″ on a side) centered on main sequence (left column) and starburst (right column) galaxy positions. Typical MS galaxies are selected to have RSB = 1 ± 0.1 and SB galaxies RSB ≥ 3. Each image results from the stacking of HST–ACS images in the B (4350 Å), V (6060 Å) and I (7750 Å) bands corresponding to the rest-frame UV at ~2700 Å at z = 0.7 (first line), z = 1.2 (second line) and z = 1.8 (third line) respectively.
