Completeness contours for K_S = 17 in the neighborhood of the Trapezium stars. The contours represent the 10%, 30%, 50%, 70% and 90% levels with increasing distance from the inner cluster respectively. This figure shows that the iso-sensitivity contours roughly follow the iso-brightness levels of the image, indicating that the completeness of the survey is strongly affected by the background nebular emission.
