Logarithm of the predicted metallicity distribution function (MDF). The quantity f is the fraction of stars that fall within each [Fe/H] bin (1 dex). The black, solid line shows the metal-poor tail of the predicted MDF of the Galactic halo, while the black, dashed line shows the predicted MDF of our observational sample. The red, solid and dashed lines denote the distribution of stars enriched by a single SN for the Galactic halo and the current sample, respectively. Below  [Fe/H]  ~  −3.8, the number of stars quickly goes to zero.
