Schematic view of a rotating neutron star from Kraus et al. (1995). A spherical coordinate system is used, with the rotation axis as polar axis. Θi is the polar angle of the ith pole. Θ0 is the polar angle of the direction of observation. The angle θ between the magnetic pole and the direction of observation changes with the rotation angle Φ.
