Dense condensations and IRDCs at the border of N36. The 870 μm contour levels are superimposed on the 8 μm image (σ = 0.09 Jy/beam; contour levels are 1, 3, 5, 10, 20, 40, and 60σ). The dense condensation in the direction of the possible second-generation UC H ii region G24.789 + 00.082 does not appear as an IRDC. It lies in the direction of the bright PDR surrounding N36, and probably slightly behind it. The foreground bright 8.0 μm emission of the PDR hides the background absorption caused by the condensation.
