We present STELIB, a new spectroscopic stellar library,
available at http://webast.ast.obs-mip.fr/stelib. STELIB consists of an
homogeneous library of 249 stellar spectra in the visible range (3200 to
9500 Å), with an intermediate spectral resolution (3 Å) and sampling
(1 Å). This library includes stars of various spectral types and luminosity
classes, spanning a relatively wide range in metallicity. The spectral
resolution, wavelength and spectral type coverage of this library represents a
substantial improvement over previous libraries used in population synthesis
models. The overall absolute photometric uncertainty is 3%.
Key words: atlases / stars: fundamental parameters / galaxies: stellar content.
Based on observations collected with the Jacobus Kaptein Telescope, (owned and operated jointly by the Particle Physics and Astronomy Research Council of the UK, The Nederlandse Organisatie voor Wetenschappelijk Onderzoek of The Netherlands and the Instituto de Astrofísica de Canarias of Spain and located in the Spanish Observatorio del Roque de Los Muchachos on La Palma which is operated by the Instituto de Astrofísica de Canarias), the 2.3 m telescope of the Australian National University at Siding Spring, Australia, and the VLT-UT1 Antu Telescope (ESO).

The Stellar Library STELIB library is also available at the CDS, via anonymous ftp to cdsarc.u-strasbg.fr (130.79.128.5) or via http://cdsweb.u-strasbg.fr/cgi-bin/qcat?J/A+A/402/433
