HIGHLIGHTS: this week in A&A

Volume 484-3 (June IV 2008)

In section 6. Interstellar and circumstellar matter

“A fully sampled λ21 cm linear polarization survey of the southern sky”, by J.C. Testori, P. Reich, and W. Reich,, A&A 484, p. 733

This article presents a new southern sky, 21cm polarization survey to complement the already available DRAO survey of the northern sky. It will be used often both because of the information it gives on the Galactic magnetic field structure and because it helps in determining the polarization of the cosmic background.

In section 10. Planets and planetary systems

“Numerical determination of the material properties of porous dust cakes”, by D. Paszun and C. Dominik, A&A 484, p. 859

This paper presents a novel numerical approach to deriving the mechanical properties of loose proto-planetary dust aggregates. The model is, to date, the most realistic numerical treatment of this type of dust by allowing the dust compressive, shear and tensile strengths to be calculated.
